ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Darton women's basketball is just days away from the NJCAA tournament and one of the main reasons for their success begins a long time ago.

For one to achieve the best, one must sometimes learn from the best and when it comes to Darton women's basketball coach Lea Henry learned from not just the best but a legend.

"When you got to Tennessee and you put a Tennessee jersey on there's a responsibility that comes with it and that's what we've tried to teach these young ladies. If you're going to wear a Darton jersey this certainly isn't about you," said Henry.

Coach Henry played for the legendary Pat Summit back in 1979.  It's a period that nurtured her coaching fire and those valuable she learned has turned the Darton program into a national power.

"If you don't have a good attitude she's not going to deal with it," said Darton guard Jasmine Wilson.

"She doesn't relax, whether you're doing good she still wants you to do better. She feels like you can do more," said Darton forward Michelle Mitchell.

It's not just X's and O's that has the Lady Cavs in the national tournament for the first time in over a decade.

"This is about who you're representing and what's expected of you," said Henry

It's about a coach that's galvanized a group of girls in good old South Georgia.

"It's more to it than just basketball off and on the court.  Be consistent in what you do whether it's school work or on the court."

Now they are off to Kansas, coach Henry's group of grateful gals with framework in tact.  By way of a teacher who was taught by the best.

"It's what I learned from her the most. Everyday you have to work hard and everyday you have to want the best and then in the end success usually follows."
