Phoenix police hope someone will recognize two people sought in connection with a jewelry store holdup that saw a store clerk fire shots at the gunman.

Silent Witness released surveillance images Saturday in hopes of revitalizing the case.

A man described as a "person of interest" was seen casing a jewelry store in the Desert Sky Mall store at 7500 W. Thomas Rd. at 10:30 a.m. Valentine's Day. Employees said the man looked suspicious to them.

The man then left and was seen making a phone call outside the store. Moments later, a man wearing a mask entered the store armed with a handgun. The suspect began breaking a glass jewelry display case and began removing, according to Silent Witness Sgt. Darren Burch.

A store clerk kicked the suspect, causing the gunman to stumble, Burch said. The suspect lost his grip of his handgun and it fell to the floor.

The suspect held on to the jewelry and ran out of the store, while leaving his handgun behind. The clerk picked up the handgun and fired at the suspect several times as he ran out of the store, Burch said. 

Officers said it's not known if the suspect was shot.  There was no evidence indicating the suspect had been wounded, Burch said.

The suspect got into the passenger side of an older model dark car waiting in the parking lot.

The gunman is described as black male and between 20 to 25 years old. He is between 5'9" to 6' tall with a thin build. 

The "person of Interest" is a white man also between 20 to 25 years old. He is between 5'7" to 5'10" tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing black-hooded sweater with "HITMAN" on front and back.
