SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

On Tuesday, Smith County Commissioners Court approved the petition signatures that will put beer and wine sales in Precinct 1 on the November election ballot.

Enough signatures were collected and presented to Smith County in February to hold a local option election in November for the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption in Precinct 1.

According to Karen Nelson, Smith County Election Administrator, a consulting firm called Texas Petition Strategies gathered 2,206 signatures, 371 more than the 1,835 needed. The signatures were then to be submitted to the court to be approved or denied. That is what happened today in Smith county.

The majority of Precinct 1 lies just outside the city limits to the northeast and northwest of Tyler.
