One person dead, another injured following rollover wreck

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

One person is dead and another is left injured following a one vehicle rollover accident Saturday night.

The accident happened around 9pm Saturday on U.S. Highway 80 near Kay road in Longview. This is just west of loop 281.

Authorities tell us a 2004 Chevrolet truck driven by 34-year-old Jesus Perez was traveling from Hallsville when it crossed over into the oncoming lane. The vehicle then rolled several times. Upon arrival, officials found the victim who has been identified as Roberto Ramirez-Garcia in the roadway. Authorities say he was ejected from the vehicle. Officials found Perez trapped in the vehicle. Both were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center. Garcia later died from his injuries.

Longview Police are continuing to investigate this crash and say that alcohol may have been a factor. Highway 80 was closed down but re-opened a short time later.

A deadly virus is threatening the crawfish industry in Southwest Louisiana. It's called white spot syndrome virus and it was first discovered in Thailand, but somehow it made its way to ponds in South Louisiana and specialists are struggling to find the funds to research a solution.  “The catch was increasing and increasing and then it dropped 70% and that's when you saw the dead crawfish floating in the water,” said a crawfish farmer of 34 years, Ian Garbarino.
