A freeze warning has been issued for parts of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi, as freezing temperatures are expected to settle over the area for the next two nights.
The National Weather Service said an unseasonably cold air mass will continue to move into the central Gulf Coast region through Tuesday. Clear skies and diminishing winds Monday night are expected to allow temperatures to drop to near freezing or below across areas north and west of Lake Pontchartrain into southern Mississippi.
The freeze warning is scheduled to be in effect until 8 a.m.
The following Louisiana parishes are included in the warning area:
Ascension
East Baton Rouge
East Feliciana
Iberville
Livingston
Pointe Coupee
St. Helena
St. Tammany
Tangipahoa
Washington
West Baton Rouge
West Feliciana
The following Mississippi counties fall into the warning zone:
Amite
Hancock
Harrison
Jackson
Pearl River
Pike
Walthall
Wilkinson
Forecasters said temperatures are expected to fall to near freezing between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Temps of 30 degrees to 32 degrees are expected to be for two to five hours.
