The Albany Police Department has been serving residents, busineses and visitors to the city of Albany for 121 years. Officers patrol three districts which are divided in to 15 beats. Sworn and civilian personnel serve four general areas: uniform bureau, criminal investigation bureau, support services bureau and administration bureau. The department is led by Chief John A. Proctor and an executive staff made up of three deputy chiefs and a Command Staff that includes several captains and a major. 

The mission of the Albany Police Department is to provide professional law enforcement services, protect and serve the citizens, to enhance the quality of life in partnership with the community, to reduce crime ane the fear of crime through joint prevention and crime reduction strategies.
