PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Jodi Arias' defense for her murder trial has cost more than $1.4 million so far.

On Wednesday, the prosecution and defense met before a judge to discuss whether the costs of the trial should be made public.

Maricopa County officials released the figure Thursday after a judge ruled in favor of several media organizations seeking the information.

CBS 5 News obtained the records that reveal the total hours billed by her court-appointed attorneys, but don't offer detailed billing information, such as how much specific expert witnesses are being paid.

The cost to taxpayers is $1,402,668.84 for 15,582 hours so far in the trial which has been going on for about three months.

Arias faces a possible death sentence if convicted of first-degree murder in the 2008 killing of Travis Alexander in his Mesa home. Authorities say she planned the attack on her lover. Arias initially denied involvement then blamed it on two masked intruders. Two years after her arrest, she said it was self-defense.
