COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (CBS5) -

Investigators said nearly 300 pounds of marijuana and a small amount of cocaine were found inside a Cochise County detention officer's home.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office was given a tip that detention Officer Mark Melgoza may be involved with illegal drugs, said an office representative.

Melgoza has been employed with the county since 2006, according to spokeswoman Carol Capas.

Sheriff Mark Dannels contacted the FBI to assist with the investigation. Officials say it lead them to the illegal drugs inside Melgoza's home.

"It is truly a difficult task to deal with cases like this indicating one of your own people are involved, but Sheriff Dannels has dealt with it swiftly and professionally," said Capas.
