Accused flag cutter pleads guilty

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A man accused of cutting down American flags from several businesses across the city pleaded guilty.

Wednesday, Minh Pham pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and resisting arrest in municipal court. The judge ordered a mental health assessment, placed him on 18 months probation and ordered him to pay around $1,000 in fines and restitution. 

Pham allegedly cut down at least five flags around Huntsville.

Pham is from Vietnam. According to investigators, Pham said he was protesting the war, though he did not specify which one. They said he has a history of destroying property while conducting his protests.

Pham pleaded guilty via video but the judge brought him into the courtroom for sentencing.
