A simple traffic stop has led to the discovery of thousands of dollars worth of cocaine.

According to Columbus police, 31-year old Anthony Medlock was pulled over by police on Buena Vista Road for a seatbelt violation Tuesday afternoon.

It wasn't long before officers discovered over 43.9 grams of cocaine valued at nearly $44,000 inside his car.

Police also discovered a 9 mm pistol along with a small amount of marijuana. Police say Medlock attempted to assault an officer and run away but he was caught and arrested.

Medlock is being held at the Muscogee County Jail.
