AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Several former players at Auburn University say they were misquoted by a journalist who accuses her former school of multiple NCAA violations.
A report by former Sports Illustrated and New York Times journalist Selena Roberts claims the Auburn football program committed academic fraud, violated recruiting rules, and made payments to players during their championship season.
The article centers around former Auburn safety Mike McNeil, who is set to stand trial for armed robbery next week.
According to ESPN, several players quoted in the story took to Twitter to say Roberts misquoted them.
Former defensive lineman Mike Blanc tweeted, "Man this article is outrageous and isn't true."
Roberts defended her story on al.com by saying she feels players are feeling pressure to soften their quotes.
An Auburn spokesperson says they will not comment on the story.
