PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A rider was thrown from his motorcycle shortly before the vehicle crashed and burst into flames in a North Valley accident.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos said an 84-year-old woman driving a Volkswagon Rabbit was heading eastbound on Union Hills on Wednesday afternoon and failed to yield before making a left turn at Cave Creek Road. She struck a motorcycle rider, identified as 20-year-old Angelo Wright.

Wright was unconscious when rescue teams arrived and was taken to the hospital where he died.

The 84-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.

The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet.
