PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A gunman is on the loose after a 23-year-old man was shot and killed in Phoenix Saturday afternoon.

Police found the wounded man, Alvin Flowers, 23, in the area of 1600 E. Garfield at 4 p.m. Flowers was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Witnesses said the suspect who shot him fled the scene in a white four-door sedan.

People with information about the whereabouts of the suspect are encouraged to call the Phoenix Police Department Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish.

Shortly after the shooting, a vehicle matching the possible suspect description was seen in the area of 16th Street and Oak.

A two-man patrol unit driving to that location was involved in a collision in the intersection of 16th Street and McDowell. One of the officers suffered minor injuries.

Thompson said it was determined that the possible suspect vehicle had not been involved in the shooting.
