Connecticut runner writes song about Boston Marathon bombings

COLUMBIA, CT (WFSB) -

A song about the explosions at Boston Marathon has gathered more than 1,200 hits on Youtube and it is by a Connecticut musician.

Derek Waldron of Columbia said after he saw on television, he felt compelled to write a song for the victims of the Boston bombings.

"It's called I Will Run and it was inspired by the everything that happened at the Boston Marathon, and everything that happened the other day," he said. "And it was on the news and by like 10:30 p.m. I had seen it, and it was so heavy that I needed to step away for a little bit. And I just went to the piano and it just wrote itself really."

Waldron, who is music teacher for Oak Grove Montessori School, said he felt a close connection to what happened.

"And all the pain will find its way home back to where it rightly lives. I won't look back over my shoulder because the past never gives," Waldron sings in I Will Run. "There is nothing that I can't do when my feet are on the ground, you can take away my body but you'll never hold me down."

He is a runner himself and said he and his dad dreamed of running the Boston Marathon together.

"Its just such a positive event for everyone involved the whole that was just so sad that I just wrote that song," Waldron said.

Since posting I Will Run, A Tribute - In Memory of the Boston Marathon Waldron said he's surprised by the video's growing number of views, but glad to share his way of helping others heal.

"I'm thrilled and I just always," he said. "All I've ever wanted is to touch people with my music and reach out."

As of 1:30 p.m., I Will Run has 1,287 views. and has been sent to The Ellen DeGeneres Show by Waldron's Facebook fans.
