BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

It's hard to believe Adele, a pitbull, was once on the verge of death. In 2012 Adele was thrown from a moving vehicle on I-20/59.

Her foster mom, Ashley Robins immediately took her in after seeing the entire thing unfold before her eyes.

"She was about, I believe 20, 23, 25 pounds just skin and bones when she was thrown out," said Ashley.

It hasn't been easy though. Adele's recovery has cost thousands of dollars in surgery and trying to gain her trust has taken time.

"Once she warms up to someone and knows that she's safe with them she's wonderful," said Ashley.

Ashley said she's great with other dogs too and is living with six other foster animals.

"It's just awesome to see how healthy she is and how happy and wagging," Ashley said.

Adele's not in the clear just yet though. A previous injury caused her to overcompensate, putting more force on her left knee. Now, she has to have surgery on it.

Even so, Ashley said her girl has come a long way.

"Just a skeleton of a dog. Missing hair all over her with mange and just very sick. [Her] metabolic functions were not well. Just because of her condition and to see her now eating and happy and playing is very fulfilling," said Ashley.

Adele's surgery will cost anywhere between $3,000 and $4,000 and she also needs a forever home.
