A Columbus man left his keys inside his red Ford Explorer and soon became the victim of a crime.

"I was at a friend's house.  I got up to go outside and get in my ride and it was gone," said Lamont David Brown.

After the suspect stole his recently purchased vehicle from Brown Avenue, he spent day and night searching the city, and calling his friends, telling them to keep an eye out.

"I had people looking for it for me, besides the police.  And I already knew, God has his eyes on the whole world.  So I knew it would just be a matter of time before they found it," said Brown.

Brown's efforts paid off on the fourth day when someone called him to say the vehicle was spotted.  He rushed to the place where it was last seen and waited, hoping the driver would pass by again.  Sure enough he saw his S.U.V. cruising by with four passengers inside. Brown got on the phone with 911 and within minutes, officers were on the suspect's tail.

"You can't outrun the police.  You may be able to get away from me all day, but you can't outrun the police," said Brown.

Patrol cars caught up with the stolen vehicle at Harbison Drive and Brooks Road just before 2 p.m. and the passengers took off running.  Police succeeded in apprehending 23-year-old Jamorris Worthey fleeing from the scene on foot.  Medics were called to treat Worthey for dehydration because he complained of feeling exhausted after running from police.

Police said the speeds they reached during the chase were so high, they had to call off the pursuit for the safety of the neighborhood.  But they continued searching and came across the suspects a second time where they made the arrest.

"I just thank God that everything's still running, I see the A.C. is still blowing, water is dripping down under the motor.  It looks like I've still got a CD player.  So I thank Him," said Brown.

In addition to car theft, Worthey is charged with fleeing, obstruction, possession of marijuana, and driving without a license.  The other three passengers are still at large.

Brown said he is glad that he called 911 to have police help him recover his vehicle instead of taking matters into his own hands.
