Paulden woman pleads guilty in raffle scheme

Posted: Updated:
PRESCOTT, AZ (AP) -

A 30-year-old Paulden woman faces only probation instead of more than 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to running a raffle scam and drug charges.

Sonia Rios advertised raffle tickets with a grand prize of a pickup truck online last year and sold $20 tickets to at least two dozen people in the Chino Valley and Paulden areas. Yavapai County sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn says she claimed the money was to help a sick infant and kept selling tickets after the raffle ended.

She was using another name but a deputy following up on a complaint tracked her down and found evidence of the fraud.

The Prescott Daily Courier reports that Rios pleaded guilty this week and will be formally sentenced on May 20.
