GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

The identities of a victim and the three Phoenix police detectives who fatally shot him have been released by Glendale authorities.

William Boyd Plant, 62, was shot Friday afternoon in a Glendale parking lot after he pointed an object at the detectives that resembled a firearm, said Glendale police Sgt. Brent Coombs.

Fearing for their lives, the detectives fired their duty weapons at the suspect, killing him.  Plant  was treated and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical crews from the Glendale Fire Department.

The detectives are identified as David Thwing, a 12-year veteran officer; Bill Behm, a 20-year veteran officer; and Brandon Cozad, a nine-year veteran officer. They are all members of a fugitive apprehension squad.

The detectives were attempting to contact Plant, who had several felony warrants, in a business complex parking lot in the 4400 block of West Olive Avenue at about 3:30 p.m.

The names of those involved were released on Sunday.
