US Highway 163 reopened after bomb scare

Posted: Updated:

A southeastern Utah highway has been reopened after a bomb threat closed the roadway for several hours.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that U.S. Highway 163 on the Navajo Nation was reopened at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday after a bomb squad found no explosives.

It had been closed at 2 p.m. Monday after reports of a bomb on a tour bus. The bus was about 14 miles north of the Utah-Arizona state line.

The FBI led the investigation.

During the closure, traffic was re-routed to U.S. Highway 191. That highway runs parallel and connects to the east-west U.S. Highway 160 in northern Arizona.
