Cars collide at intersections after traffic lights go out

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

An unexpected power outage is to blame for at least two accidents in downtown Columbus.

Drivers were thrown into confusion when traffic signals went dead Wednesday morning.

One person was loaded into an ambulance after suffering injuries at 14th Street and 2nd Avenue. Just a block away, a pick-up truck was towed from the scene of an accident on 1st Avenue.

Police want to remind the public that when power is out at a traffic light, it should be treated like a four-way stop sign.

We're waiting to hear from Georgia Power on the cause of the outage.
