BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The state rests its case in the first-degree murder trial of "Marlo Mike," whose real name is Michael Louding. The defense rested its case without calling a single witness.

Louding is charged with the murder of Terry Boyd, who was killed in October 2009.

A number of officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department took the stand Thursday morning. They linked Louding to a number of other crimes, namely the double murders of Darryl Milton and Charles Matthews. The pair was shot to death while sitting inside a Cadillac on Monte Sano Avenue on April 1, 2010.

"We got a tip that Michael Louding was involved in the shooting," said Detective Belford Johnson. "He did admit to it later and he gave us the names of the other two [who were] involved."

Defense Attorney Margret Lagatutta offered no defense after the prosecution rested at around 4:30 on Thursday afternoon. That trial strategy is not that unusual says WAFB Legal analyst John McClindon. "The defendant is not required to put on any evidence," says McClindon. "It's not uncommon for defendants to put on no evidence and hold the state to its burden of proof."

Neither side is talking to the media until the case is resolved. Prosecutor Dana Cummings put Konstantinos Dimitrelos on the stand. He is a cell phone expert who testified that Louding's cell phone was in the vicinity of the Terry Boyd murder scene at the time Boyd was  shot to death in October 2009.

"I cannot tell you Michael Louding was at the crime scene," testified Dimitrelos. "I can tell you his cell phone device was nearby." He said the cell phone was at Baton Rouge Rapper "Lil Boosie's" house at 11:22 p.m. It was discovered near the murder scene at 12:40 a.m. and back at Boosie's at 12:47 a.m.

The state rested its case after four days of testimony and dozens of witnesses. Louding is on trial for the murder of Terry Boyd but he is implicated in four other killings. Closing arguments are set for 10 a.m. on Friday before District Court Judge Trudy White.

Ryan Carroll, also known as "Sneaks," and Kendrick Johnson were each indicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Milton and Matthews.
