Cullman Co. family mourns elderly man hit and killed by train

The Cullman County Sheriff says an elderly man wandered from his home and was tragically hit and killed by a train Friday.

Cheryl Floyd tells FOX6 News that she keeps a close eye on her husband, 74-year-old Wayne, because he suffers from Parkinson's Disease. She says it causes him to hallucinate, which may be why he wandered from their home Friday morning to a nearby train track.

Sheriff Mike Rainey says that Floyd fell on the track near CR 1309 as a train was approaching. The two conductors told authorities they tried to stop the train once they realized Floyd had fallen on the track, but they couldn't stop in time.

Floyd leaves behind his wife, four children and several grand- and great-grandchildren.
