WTVM 4/26/13 Editorial: Hostess snacks make a comeback

Hostess brands, a new company and employer under new ownership, announced Tuesday plans to re-launch its state-of-the-art bakery in Columbus, Georgia.

The company will initially add 200 jobs to the local economy and plans to create a total of more than 300 jobs in the community within the next several years.

The baking facility, located on Victory Drive in Columbus, will resume operations this summer and will produce a full assortment of hostess' iconic snack products.

"This bakery has been a vital part of the Columbus business community for more than 40 years, and we look forward to working with the new owners and management team as they continue to invest in the hostess brands and in our community," said Teresa Tomlinson, mayor of Columbus, Georgia.

All of that is great news but the real story here is the fact that Twinkies and Ding Dongs are back.

Just when we thought the world was out of kilter, we have been put back on track.

Storms, wars, death and destruction go on but I feel more secure now that my old childhood comfort foods will once again be on our grocery shelves.
