HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A man has been found guilty of capital murder in Alabama after pleading guilty to killing five others in Tennessee.

Jacob Shaffer was found guilty Monday in the death of Sidney Dempsey, who was found bludgeoned in Huntsville in 2009. The man also pleaded guilty to killing his estranged wife, her son, brother, father, and a neighbor in Lincoln County, Tenn.

Shaffer told investigators he killed Dempsey to prepare himself for the beating and stabbing deaths in Tennessee. Shaffer is already serving a life sentence in Tennessee.

WAFF-TV (http://bit.ly/188PkmD ) reports prosecutors initially sought the death penalty against Shaffer, but his statements to investigators were thrown out because a lawyer wasn't there.

Shaffer is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday morning.
