PRESCOTT, AZ (CBS5) -

A robber used pepper spray on the female owner of a Prescott jewelry store and fled the business with a costly piece of merchandise, police said.

Another owner of the business, who was working in the back of the store, grabbed a handgun and ran after the suspect, firing three shots, officers said.

The robber dove into a vehicle and drove off. The store owner told police he didn't think the suspect or vehicle were hit.

Missing from the jewelry store in the 300 block of North Montezuma Street was a $1,250 piece of jewelry, police said.

The suspect is described as about 6' tall with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, a blue or black short-sleeved T-shirt with a white design on it and blue jeans. He was also wearing sunglasses.

People with information about the crime or suspect are asked to call Detective Patrick Mora at 928-777-1920 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232.
