Ft. Benning launches gravesite accountability mission

An accountability missionhas made its way to Fort Benning's cemetery as crews are working to matchheadstones with records.

There are more than 10,000buried at Fort Benning and over 90 years worth of history.

About 16 soldiers from the3rd Brigade are taking pictures of every headstone in order to matchthem with the records.

The overall goal is forpeople to be able to look on their computer or smartphone and easily find theirloved one's headstone and information.

There will even be an aerialmap with walking directions. We spoke with the chief of operations in themaintenance division about this project.

"Not only would yoube able to see your loved one or your friend if you came here, but you'd alsobe able to see their headstone on your computer which could give you peace ofmind and a sense of pride to say, hey, my loved one is being taken care of,"said Kirk Ticknor.

All of this came afternational media reported on burial record discrepancies at Arlington NationalCemetery in Virginia.

The Army took thisaccountability very serious, and this mission has carried over to many othermilitary cemeteries.

They hope this projectwill be complete within the next year or two.
