Bassmaster Elite Series draws anglers to West Pt. Lake

Anglers from all over the world were on West Point Lake in LaGrange on Thursday, and it's not just fish they have on the line.

The Bassmasters Elite Series tournament is happening through Sunday.

Whoever brings home the biggest catch will qualify for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham and will take home $100,000.

We spoke with the event director Trip Weldon who explains even though these are the best fisherman in the world, the odds were against them on Thursday.

"It's going to be interesting to see how the weather kind of plays a factor," said Weldon. "The lake is a lot higher than it was last time we we're here, we're kind of under a low pressure system - winds out of the east.  An old fishing saying is winds out of the east, fish bite the least, but you put these guys anywhere they're going to catch them so it will be interesting to see."

Keith Combs was the winner of the day's match at the weigh-in.

Tournament fishing will resume Friday morning.
