MOBILE, AL (NBC/WPMI) -

Mobile, Alabama NBC affiliate WPMI-TV is reporting that an 18-wheeler crashed into the water after it went over the railing of the BayWay Bridge Thursday morning. Crews are working to pull the rig from the water.

The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the Daphne exit.

Officials told WPMI that the truck flipped over the BayWay, taking a chunk of concrete with it, before landing in the Mobile Bay.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for medical attention but was expected to be okay.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the crash. They say a white Ford Ranger pickup truck was also involved.
