We all know that pink is the color of breast cancer.  That's because we see it everywhere.  We see it everywhere because women talk about it.

When it comes to men and prostate cancer, it is a much different story.

"Men just don't talk.  It's the caveman theory.  The women were the gatherers and picked berries they chatted the men were hunting and gathering they were crouched down and we carried it on.  It is amazing how many patients will tell me since they have been diagnosed with cancer they were surprised by how many of their friends had it because they didn't talk about it," said Dr. J.D. Williams of the Urology Group.

He adds that people needs every man over the age of fifty needs to be screened.

African Americans and men who have a brother or father diagnosed with prostate cancer need to be screened at forty.

That's me. I'm over the age of forty. The prostate cancer screening begins with a blood test or PSA.  This test has been around since the mid-1980's.

Dr. Williams says they are accurate despite what some may have recently heard.

"They are not inaccurate.  They're very specific to prostate disease.  They are specific for infection enlargement and cancer," he said.

Dr. Williams knows what he is talking about.

He is a prostate cancer survivor thanks to the blood test which catches cancer early.

"I'm so happy that I found it and have survived 15 years. It is a blessing. Prior to PSA's we didn't have any way to detect it early," he said.

I'll admit being nervous before the second part of the test.  I'm sure you know what it is.  Honestly it lasts fifteen seconds, and guys women have been facing uncomfortable medical procedures for years.
