Lady Rams won't be intimidated by VSU

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Off a miraculous rally to win the SIAC Softball Tournament, the Albany State Lady Rams are riding a high into the NCAA Regionals.

It's won't be an easy road for Robert Skinner and his Lady Rams though.

ASU is the eight-seed in the South regional, opening play against the number one seed and defending champ Valdosta State Blazers.

They've already seen the squad down south four times this season, with Valdosta winning

But they're not intimidated by Valdosta State.

Coach Skinner and his Lady Rams say they're not focusing on opponent, they're just out there to play their game against whoever is in front of them.

"We're really just looking at them by the color of their jerseys," says Utility Player Sierra Gaines, who was the 2013 SIAC Tournament MVP. "Not that we're going to play Valdosta, who's won so many championships. We're looking at colors and we're going to play a team that is valdosta's colors."

It seems the Lady Blazers have been the only team to shut down the ASU offense this season.

The Lady Rams are ranked in the top 20 in home runs per game, slugging percentage, and scoring.

But in their four losses to VSU, the Lady Rams have failed to score a single run.

Skinner, though, is hoping to get his offense going in game one and ride it through the tournament.

"We're just going to take it one game at a time," Skinner says. "If we can go out the first game, and get Dominique Bryant started, who is our lead off hitter, we really think it'll be contagious and everybody else will do their part and we'll be able to show offensively what we're capable of doing."

The Lady Rams and Lady Blazers open Regional play Friday night at 7 in Valdosta.
