PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A Dallas-bound American Airlines plane had to abort takeoff at Phoenix-Sky Harbor International Airport on Thursday night.

Airlines spokeswoman Stacey Frantz said low tire pressure forced the plane to be returned to the gate before its scheduled 6:15 a.m. takeoff.

The MD-80 sat on the runway until the brakes cooled down, and was towed back to the gate.

Sky Harbor Operations said passengers of Flight 592 were taken off the troubled aircraft and waited in a terminal for more than four hours before another aircraft took them to their final destination about 10:45 p.m.
