Head of Phoenix sex-trafficking ring sentenced

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The leader of a sex-trafficking ring in Phoenix has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

U.S. District Judge David Campbell sentenced George Calvin Windley, 33, on Thursday.

Police said Windley and three other pimps conspired to entice young women in the Valley into their ring and intimidated them into a life of slavery and prostitution.

Police said Windley ran the commercial sex prostitution business from 2001 through at least 2009.

Police said George Windley, Jacob Heckstall, Muttaqui Windley and Michael Lazar made fake credit cards and bought high-end gifts for the girls and promised them an extravagant lifestyle.

According to police, they targeted women who were the most vulnerable, including victims who had been previously abused as children, came from broken families or were "running away" from home.

The victims described how the defendant repeatedly struck, punched, kicked, pushed, raped and used other physical abuse to prevent the women from leaving.
