COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The grand opening celebration of the newest Goodwill in Columbus is underway, and people were in line way before the store even opened.

At 9 a.m. there was a ribbon cutting ceremony; the first 200 people in line received a gift and one lucky shopper will take home a tablet.

This is the third of five new stores following last fall's expansion announcement. It is located off J.R. Allen Parkway near Flat Rock Road.

We spoke with Jane Nichols, the president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers, who explains the economic impact of this store.

"Typically what happens in a site like this is we will create 30 to 35 new jobs which we've done and it's fully staffed today, in addition to that with adding the career center it'll serve about 1,200 individuals typically with about 50 percent of those going to work," said Nichols.

Nichols predicts out of this location alone they will be able to find about 700 people a job.

Last year Goodwill helped more than 3,000 people find jobs in the area -- having an economic impact of over $52 million on local communities.
