From Leadership Tyler:

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Leadership Tyler, a nine-month program designed to equip leaders to enrich the Tyler community, is accepting online applications for its 27th class at www.leadershiptyler.org through the end of May.

“Leadership Tyler alumni have consistently proven to be leaders who are well-informed, committed, and passionately engaged in creating a vital, positive community,” said Colleen Colby, the program’s executive director. Applicants must either work or live in the Tyler area.

The program provides professional development, unique insights into community needs/assets and valuable networking opportunities. Leadership Tyler offers in-depth training from leading experts on a variety of topics, including communication and presentation techniques, behavioral style assessment, strategic thinking, media relations and much more.

The Leadership Tyler curriculum focuses on specific community issues and offers numerous leadership training components. Session topics include diversity, healthcare, communication, education, the economy, and other critical issues facing leaders today.

Participants learn how Tyler works and how to meet challenges ahead. Throughout the learning experience, relationships are forged to create meaningful connections and friendships. “The whole experience is designed to provide the tools that leaders in Tyler can use to make our community a better place for everyone who lives and works here,” Colby said.

Leadership Tyler was established in 1986 to identify, motivate and develop future leadership in a way that transcends race, political and occupational affiliation. The common goal is to serve the community and improve the quality of life for its citizens in every possible venue. More than 700 alumni serve as community trustees for dozens of community organizations, as elected and appointed officials, and as leaders in the private, public and non-profit sectors of Smith County.

“Many people don’t realize the valuable professional training offered through Leadership Tyler,” says Carroll Roge, LT president-elect and a veteran of Class 20. “Over the course of the program, you truly expand your capabilities in many areas, including public speaking, interpersonal communications and team-building.”
