BUCKEYE, AZ (CBS5) -

A Buckeye man attempted to stab his mom with a kitchen fork during an argument over his prescribed medication, Buckeye police said.

David Childers, 25, faces a number of charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and inflicting injury to an animal.

Officers said Childers turned his anger on two dogs inside the home and struck them repeatedly with his hands.

The woman suffered swelling after Childers slapped her on the face and body. He then grabbed the fork and intentionally tried to stab her multiple times, according to a probable cause statement.

The woman was able to get the fork out of his hands and ran to the phone to call 911. She said her son continued to hit her as she called emergency dispatchers. The woman was able to escape the home as police arrived.

Childers ignored police commands to emerge from the house. A short time later, Childers surrendered but not without a small fight.

Childers was handcuffed and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.

His mother is expected to be OK.
