Davellyn Whyte may be gone but the next great point guard at Arizona may be arriving.

And in the nick of time.

Taryn Griffey, the daughter of Major League Baseball legend Ken Griffey, Jr and younger sister of Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Trey Griffey, announced Thursday that she will play at the University of Arizona.

Griffey missed her entire senior season after tearing her ACL in a October but was still rated as the 12th best point guard in the Class of 2014 by ESPN.

She was the 8A State Player of the year as a sophomore and her Dr. Phillips High School team won three state championships with her and one without her this past season.

Griffey told Florida's Bright House Sports Network that she chose Arizona because she wants to make a name for herself and for a program like Skylar Diggins and Brittney Griner did at Notre Dame and Baylor.

This is a huge get for Wildcats head coach Niya Butts who has not been able to get UA to the NCAA Tournament in her five seasons on the job and is lost Whyte, the program's 2nd all-time leading scorer, to graduation.
