Friday is deadline to comment on transport plan

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -

Friday is the deadline for the public to submit comments on a tentative plan to update the state's five-year program for prioritizing highway projects and other transportation improvements.

Among other things, the plan guides decisions on what highway projects will get funding.

Three scenarios are being considered as the state faces reduced federal funding and reduced revenue from taxes on gasoline sales and vehicle licenses.

One scenario would focus on preservation of current systems. Another would focus on major projects. The third is a blend.

The Transportation Board will approve the final version of the program on June 14 during a meeting in Pinetop-Lakeside.

The Department of Transportation has held three public hearings and says it has received more than 800 comments from the public.
