CASA GRANDE, AZ (CBS5/AP) -

Casa Grande police have identified a man who was struck and killed by an empty cargo train, but they have yet to say why he was on the tracks early Friday.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that the man was identified as 34-year-old Thomas Williamson.

Case Grande police spokesman Thomas Anderson said the Union Pacific Railroad called police about 7:40 a.m. Friday to report a collision involving one of their empty cargo trains in the area of the Gila Bend overpass.

Anderson said Williamson was standing on the tracks and the train operator honked the horn and put on the brakes but the man didn't move. The train, which was traveling about 50 to 55 mph, hit the man and he died on impact.

No other details were released.
