PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Phoenix public safety community is mourning the loss of a firefighter.

Brad Harper, 23, was killed over the weekend. He was pinned between two fire department vehicles while responding to a mulch fire near 39th Avenue and Miami Street.

Along with the Phoenix Police Department, the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) said on Tuesday they are investigating his death.

ADOSH said in a statement it has jurisdiction to investigate work sites to determine if the employer is complying with safety-related laws and regulations.

Fellow firefighters and friends gathered to remember Harper. They said he was a loving, strong young man, someone you could depend on and someone who loved to have a good time.

Friends spoke of Harper's sarcastic sense of humor and his huge appetite. They also talked about the amazing relationship he had with his high school sweetheart and wife, Lena.

"We were at one of our friend's birthday parties and we were all outside and then we look up on the roof and some music starts playing and Brad and Lena started dancing on the rooftop and from then on they had dated. They were picture perfect," said friend and fellow firefighter Bobby Priest.

A representative with the local firefighters association, Local 493, said the Honor Guard has been with Harper's body ever since he died and will stay there around the clock until his services.

A funeral ceremony will be held this Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Christ's Church of the Valley. The church is located at 7007 W. Happy Valley Rd. in Peoria.

Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery at 719 N. 27th Ave.

The specific route from the church to the cemetery has not been determined.
