PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A barbecue to benefit the families of two Phoenix first-responders killed over the weekend will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel in Phoenix.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton said the barbecue at 2620 W. Dunlap Ave. will also be to show support and honor fallen heroes, as well as to benefit the families of Phoenix police Officer Daryl Raetz and Phoenix Firefighter Bradley Harper.

Raetz, 29, an Iraqi war veteran, died from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning. He is survived by his wife and a 5-year-old daughter.

Harper died after he was crushed between two fire vehicles at a mulch fire Saturday. He is survived by his wife, Lena.

The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association and the Phoenix Professional Fire Fighters of Arizona will host the joint barbecue, and will serve hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and soft drinks.

The event will last 14 hours to accommodate third-shift officers to attend.

All proceeds will go directly to the families of Raetz and Harper.
