From LSU Sports

HOOVER, Ala. – Second-ranked LSU (48-8) faces Alabama (33-24) at approximately 12:30 p.m. CT Wednesday in the SEC Tournament at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The game can be heard on the affiliates of the LSU Sports Radio Network (98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and live audio and stats of the games may be accessed in the Geaux Zone at www.LSUsports.net.

Wednesday's game will be televised by Cox Sports Television and by Comcast Sports Southeast.

LSU captured the 2013 SEC Western Division championship and enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed. The division title is LSU's second in a row and its fourth during coach Paul Mainieri's seven-season tenure with the Tigers.

LSU has won 17 SEC Western Division crowns in its history. The Tigers have the second-highest total of division titles in league annals - Florida has won the SEC East on 21 occasions.

LSU's 48 regular-season wins and its 23 SEC victories are the most in school annals. The 23 regular-season SEC wins also represents the third-high total in league history.

Under Mainieri, the Tigers have won three SEC Tournament titles (2008, 2009, 2010), the 2009 and 2012 SEC regular-season championships and SEC Western Division crowns in 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013. Mainieri has a 14-3 coaching record in his four previous SEC Tournament appearances.

"The SEC Tournament is the best conference tournament in college baseball, and it's often more difficult to win this tournament than it is to win an NCAA Regional, " Mainieri said. "We're facing an outstanding opponent in every round of this tournament,  beginning with Alabama in our first game. They compete at a very high level, and we always enjoy the challenge of facing them. We had a very tough series against them a few weeks ago in Tuscaloosa, and we're expecting another great game here in Hoover."

LSU won two of three games over Alabama April 19-21 in Tuscaloosa, including an 11-8, 16-inning victory in Game 2.

LSU has a league-best 64-37 (.643) all-time record in the SEC Tournament, and the Tigers own a conference-high nine tournament titles. Alabama and Mississippi State are second behind LSU with seven tournament titles, and Ole Miss is third with five championships.

LSU has won three of the past five SEC Tournament crowns, claiming the title in 2008, 2009 and 2010. LSU was 1-2 at last year's tournament., losing to Mississippi State, 3-2, defeating Ole Miss, 11-2, and falling to Mississippi State, 4-3 in 10 innings. The Tigers are 14-3 in their past 17 SEC Tournament games.

Alabama leads LSU, 193-160-3, in a series that began in 1906. The Tigers, however, have a 36-13 overall mark against Alabama over the past 14 seasons (2000-13). LSU has won 11 of its last 14 SEC regular-season series versus the Tide. The Tigers have also won seven of the last eight SEC series over Alabama, including the series victory earlier this season in Tuscaloosa.
