Imagine getting paid to follow your dreams. That's exactly what the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship allows young achievers do.

News Leader 9's Sara Lim met with the two fortunate recipients of such a prestigious award.

Fifty-four thousand students applied this year for the scholarship, and only a thousand of those students are selected annually.

This year, two of those candidates are from Columbus: Rashad Palmer and Maggie Kelley.

"Wow...that's really the only thing I can say because I really didn't know how I was going to pay for college," said Rashad.

"Now, not having to use that money is like a blessing...we are still so excited," said Maggie.

Rashad is going to college to study medicine and Maggie will be pursuing multiple degrees in politics, environmental science and business.

Rashad and Maggie said it never hurts to try anything, and the two students have also made a positive reflection on their high school too.
