Sheriff Darr clarifies new policy's affect on pregnant employees

(WTVM) -

Pregnant employees at the Muscogee County Sheriff's office have expressed concerns about a new workman's compensation procedure. Officials now clarify that the whole issue is a misunderstanding and the new policy is not unfairly targeting pregnant employees.

Sheriff John Darr says the policy was geared mainly toward those employees that had non-workman's compensation claims.

Regarding pregnant employees, Darr says, "We're going to do just like anybody in the city government. We'll make sure that we find them somewhere, not only to work in the Sheriff's Office or with agencies in the city government, to find them somewhere to work while they finish out their pregnancy."

Sheriff Darr says the formal regulation will be given to employees to further clarify how the new policy will effect them.

We also asked Sheriff Darr if the amendment to the policy is in response to injured employees abusing the system,  he says they are not.
