Arizona Basketball will play tough non-conference

TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona men's basketball coach Sean Miller today announced the non-conference schedule for the 2013-14 campaign.

The 13-game schedule features nine home games, including the hosting of the opening rounds of the 2013 NIT Season Tip-Off, and spotlights six teams – Long Beach State, Michigan, New Mexico State, San Diego State, Southern and UNLV  – that participated in the 2013 postseason, including three regular season or postseason tournament champions.

Collectively, UA's 2013-14 non-conference opponents won better than 60 percent of its games last season, amassing a 185-119 (.609) record.

"We are excited about our 2013-14 non-conference schedule," said Miller.  "It provides our team with numerous opportunities at McKale Center, away from home, and in the NIT Season Tip-Off that will prepare us for conference play.  Additionally, this type of schedule is built to provide us the quality needed in the month of March for our postseason aspirations to be realized."

The slate tips off with home games against Cal Poly on Nov. 8 and Long Beach State on Nov. 11 before the Cats hit the road for the first time at San Diego State on Nov. 14.

Arizona will host two games of the NIT Season Tip-Off in McKale Center between Nov. 18-20 with game dates and opponents to be named later.  The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Nov. 27 & 29 in Madison Square Garden in New York City.

UA opens the month of December with three consecutive home games – Texas Tech (Dec. 3), UNLV (Dec. 7) and New Mexico State (Dec. 11) – before traveling to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the University of Michigan on Dec. 14,

The non-conference portion of the schedule wraps up with pre-Christmas games against Southern on Dec. 19 and in-state foe Northern Arizona on Dec. 23.

The Wildcats have one exhibition game scheduled for Oct. 28, when the squad hosts Augustana College.  The date for UA's Red-Blue games is still to be determined.

Arizona's conference schedule, as well as all start times and television carriers, will be announced as available.

The Wildcats return three starters and seven letterwinners from last season's club that posted a 27-8 record (12-6 Pac-12) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's West Regional semifinals for the second time in three seasons.
