The Department of Public Safety says State Troopers are increasing their roadway presence in an effort to reduce fatalities during The 100 Deadly Days of Summer.

This period of time is between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The title comes from the fact that automobile accident fatalities tend to rise due to an increase in roadway travelers.

"Most of the time there's either speed or alcohol involved, and then when you add no restraint to it, they're either being partially ejected, ejected, or [experiencing] blunt force trauma causing the fatality," says State Trooper Bridget Wyant.

Later in the day, News Leader 9 will be featuring tips on how to stay safe on the road during this dangerous time period for drivers.
