(WTVM) -

Hurricane season doesn't begin until June 1, but one hurricane has already formed and made landfall in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Barbara has now weakened to a tropical storm, but already claimed two lives.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting another active season with 13 to 20 named storms, but a new study shows one in six residents ignore evacuation warnings.

The strength of the storm has a large impact on whether residents would evacuate.

Of those surveyed, 55% say they would evacuate if the storm was a Category 3 or higher.
