Jones, Gipson earn PIFL honors

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Columbus Lions quarterback Marcus Jones was named PIFL Co-Offensive Player of the week, and defensive lineman Joshua Gipson was Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

In his first start since April, Jones led the Lions to a 59-48 victory over the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, rushing for four touchdowns and throwing for two more, racking up 246 yards of total offense.

Gipson had the key play on defense for the Lions, picking off a pass from Adam Bednarik, the PIFL's top rated passer, and returning it 20 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a three-touchdown lead in the second quarter. Gipson also broke up two passed and had a sack.

The Lions host the Albany Panthers this weekend, a must-win game in the race for the fourth and final PIFL playoff spot. Kickoff Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at the Columbus Civic Center.
