Hughston Foundation holds golf fundraiser for Valley student athletes

Folks in the valley hit the links Wednesday to help raise money that could help prevent serious head injuries for children in area schools.

The Hughston Foundation organized the golf tournament to show appreciation to athletic coaches in the Chattahoochee Valley, and also to raise money to purchase the ImPACT concussion management software for student athletes.

Andy Grubbs of Hughston Foundation coordinated the event. He says the new software will help monitor concussions.

"It's a computer-based test that the athletes will take before the season starts," he says. "If they get a concussion during the season, we can give them that test again and it'll tell us if their brain is functioning the way it was before the concussion."

The ImPACT concussion equipment is currently being used in high schools, colleges and by professional sports teams.

The Hughston foundation plans to support the tournament annually to help purchase life-saving equipment, such as impact for local children.
