Search continues for missing West Point man

LANETT, AL (WTVM) -

The search is still on for a missing West Point man, last seen leaving the Chambers County Jail more than a month ago.

News Leader 9's Elizabeth White was there as multiple agencies and law enforcement officers gathered Thursday for a massive grid search.

Thirty different law enforcement officers from multiple agencies joined forces to try and locate 41-year-old James Garner.

Garner was last seen on May 3 leaving the Chambers County Detention Facility after he was arrested for a public intoxication charge.

The all-day ground search zeroed in on Highway 50, where Garner was last seen trying to get a ride to Lanett.

Agents walked up and down the roads and into the wood line, but so far no trace of the West Point man has been found.

"Today we started at the Shell Station, with team one and team two at this point and near the Kellum Hill area," said Sgt. Christopher Trice with the Lanett Police Department. "We had teams three and four and they met at a local point midway."

The ground search covered 17 square miles, and officers have also searched the area by plane.

His family says it is unlike Garner to just disappear, and they are very worried.

If you have any information that may help police, you are asked to give them a call.
