(WTVM) -

Our area may not get a direct hit from Tropical Storm Andrea, but with hurricane season upon us, the potential for heavy rains from other storms does exist.

If you don't have flood insurance, now may be a good time to think about getting it. It's important to note that homeowner's insurance and renter's insurance are separate from flood insurance.

State Farm agent Mike Holland says if you don't have coverage yet, the first thing you need to do is make a plan for emergency and be aware of everything you own.

"It's very important that you protect your property and you know what property you have by doing an inventory, but you have to put that plan into action and it's always good to talk to your insurance agent about what type of coverage you have," says Holland.

He says you can't buy flood insurance during a named storm.

Most policies only cost a few hundred dollars a year.
